Jodhpur's magnificent
Royal Residence is her most dominant landmark, visible from every part of
the sprawling city. Designed by the well known Edwardian architect, Henry
Vaughan Lanchester, a worthy rival of Edward Lutyens, and completed in
1943 after almost fifteen years of construction, Maharaja Umaid Singh's
Umaid Bhawan was the last of India's great palaces and one of the largest
private residences in the world.
